I agree that this video by Peter Wilson is an amazing piece of work. It’s very well done and I’ll pass on the link to all the people I know in my area.

Congratulations Mr Wilson, You sure know how to bring your point accross.
This proposition of choosing Kettle Island over other viable alternatives indicates clearly a lack of honest research. It shows no consideration for the people of our city, our natural and cultural heritage and other intelligent researches that have been done in the past.
Together, we will fight this proposal.

I am sending the video link to everyone I know. I also sent it to the media. It’s a terrific piece of work and very effective ammunition for the bridge battle.

Hmmm Autoroute 50.
This video made me think about how close the route 50 is to completion. After looking at Google Maps, it shows construction to close the gap near Thurso and Hawkesbury. This seems pretty close. Some more searching shows a tentative completion date of 2011. Much sooner than a bridge would be built. Does this make all the truck estimates wrong? Could many many of those trucks using the 417 be set to move to the Autoroute 50 in 2011. How does that effect the weightings that I sometimes have trouble understanding. Could we better spend this half a billion dollars on better transit throughout the NCC. Maybe no bridge is the best option. Imagine how we could do this better (not easier).

Kudos to Peter Wilson. His video says it like it is.
Well done Peter

Oct. 22nd, 2008 – Check out the Ottawa Citizen’s front page:
Algonquins seek full hearing as NCC plans Ottawa bridge; Natives lay claim to land along routes eyed for river crossing
We weren’t the only ones the NCC didn’t invite to the table.

This is just another example of NIMBY. If they move it to the Duck island others will jump up and talk about how that should be protected. I’ll bet there are ducks there. My taxes are going to increase because of the protests, and it will slow down the process, lets have someone else die downtown. Get a grip!

Plumber Joe – If you looked closely at the arguments against Kettle Island, you would realize that they are not based on NIMBYism, but are based on NIABY (not in anyone’s back yard). The Gatineau Airport alternative passes through no residential areas or communities, and becomes the most attractive option when reasonable weightings are assigned to factors that measure the negative impacts on the people and communities in the new crossing area.
No one is questioning the fact that trucks need to be removed from downtown, but the solution is not to move them to another established residential area.
If you think protests will increase your taxes, how would you feel if the $500M crossing were to be built in the wrong place, and we end up with similar congestion and tragedies involving trucks and pedestrians that we’re seeing downtown today at Montreal Road and the Aviation Parkway – site of a hospital, high rise, pedestrians and bikers?

What compensation will be provided to homeowners within a short distance of the super-highway of trucks, noise and pollution? Will our property taxes decrease or will MPAC just compare to a similar home a couple of kms away that is beside a quiet park but still the same size? We purchased our home as it was in a quiet, peaceful, area right by woods and bike path. This will cease to exist if this stupid idea goes through. I’d love to see one of the dummies who agreed to this plan agree to move into our street and live here when the bridge has been built and see how they love the continuous loud noise of heavy trucks polluting their back yards. Such arrogance and selfishness!
