Strong turnout at the Final Public Consultation
September 25th, 2008 Posted in News and Commentary, Your Participation
More than 1000 concerned citizens packed the meeting room at Lansdowne for the Final Public Consultation. It was a great display of community energy. Photos, videos, and commentary to follow…stay tuned.
We’ll be revamping the website to better accomodate the media attention that this story is sure to attract, but for now, here is a link to the Sept 25 Ottawa Citizen article: “Hundreds of angry residents tell consultants ‘no’ to proposed bridge at Kettle Island“.

We think the numbers are closer to 900 and are planning to confirm with the consultants for our records.
It was an amazing turn-out! Thank you to everyone who took the time to come out and stand up for our communities.

A BIG THANKS to Gisele and Alan (and the rest of the group) for making the amazing eye catching buttons. It had a great psychological effect on making the crowd feel unified behind a common cause.
Great last minute effort, talk about rallying the troops!

The meeting on Wednesday was a great start and certainly confirmed that trucks and commuter traffic needs are more important in this process than people.
Question, there is a coalition of community associations which is excellent, will representatives from the RCMP musical ride, Police college, Rockcliffe Airport, Montfort hospital and other concerned parties- school parent councils, local business associations be part of a larger collaborative effort? I may have missed it at Wednesday’s meeting but I did not see any representatives from these locations except for the Rockcliffe boat club.
PS the buttons are great and i have had many people talk to me about the bridge as a result
Great effort by everyone.

The official count is in for last Wednesday’s public consutatiion. A total of 931 people registered. Given that there were quite a few people who did not bother registering, we can safely say we were close to 1000. Incredible.
